Acclimation
- Most plants require a period of acclimation ranging from 2 to 4 weeks
- General rule of thumb: only change one variable at a time (Relative Humidity, Temperature, Media)
Lighting
- Use full-spectrum grow lights for optimal results
- Blue light supports vegetative growth; red light promotes flowering and fruiting
- Barrina pinkish-white T8/T5 lights are affordable, efficient, and low-heat options
- Light intensity varies by species: 100-400 FC
- Genetics and fertilisation have a greater impact on plant aesthetics than lighting adjustments alone
Watering & Growing Media
- Most of our anthuriums are grown in OPS Pro Mix
- Maintain consistently moist media—avoid wet/dry cycles
- Semi-hydro mixes or pon work well; keep the substrate top moist
- Water once weekly with full-strength nutrient solution; top up between waterings with diluted solution
Nutrient Solution Recipe
- pH Down: Food-grade phosphoric acid (target pH 5.8, acceptable range 5.5–6.5)
- NPK Fertiliser: Maxsea 16-16-16 at ½ teaspoon per gallon (2.5g per 4L)
- Cal-Mag: Sensi Cal-Mag Xtra - Advanced Nutrients (Follow label every other week)
